description

contend with arcane bureaucracy, sentient machines, maniacal PTAs, malevolent garden flora, and the occasional cosmic horror as you attempt to survive, overcome, and perhaps even escape the darkly idyllic community

an absurdist modern fantasy roleplaying game inspired by welcome to nightvale, alice in wonderland, gravity falls, the twilight zone, etc. the mechanics are pbta based, and the base game comes with 9 playbooks for players to choose from:

the rulebook also has information about some of the organisations and locations that exist within the town, each falling into one of 4 factions present in the town; bureaucracy, community, underbelly, and entropy. each faction has its own agenda and resources and each playbook starts with different levels of connection to each of them.

notes

listen, i fucking love so many of the touchstones of this ttrpg. welcome to nightvale was one of the first audio dramas i ever obsessed over. i recently watched most of gravity falls. i love the absurd. i want to play this so bad

the rulebook is well layed out, with lots of clarifying info, and examples of monsters and objectives for play. it's honestly a lovely read, and its my preffered level of info for a ttrpg, sometimes i struggle with visualising exactly how to form and plan sessions as a gm if the sourcebook throws a vague setting and some rules at me, but here, i feel like i'm given just enough of a framework that i feel inspired rather than left adrift

the playbooks are fucking fantastic, truly, and i love that part of the character creation includes questions to ask the other players which help build relationships between their characters and the factions and town. i don't know if i've ever been more excited to run a session 0/character creation session.

now i just gotta figure out a way to convince people to play this with me xD
